Library Cards are available free to all Norwalk* residents. With your library card you are eligible to check out books, movies, magazines, use the Internet and more.
You can apply for a library card in person, online, or download the application to complete at your leisure. Visit either of our locations to pick up your card.

To get a Norwalk Public Library System card, a new borrower must present one type of identification from section A or two types of identification from section B, one from the identity column and one from the residency column. If the new borrower does not have a photo ID, the library card will have a limit of two items.


A)

Acceptable Identification

, if they are signed, valid (unexpired), current:

  • Connecticut Driver's License with current Norwalk address
  • Connecticut Photo ID with current Norwalk address
  • US passport with Norwalk address.
    NOTE: Some passports do not list address in which case a residency ID is needed.



B)

Residency ID Requirements

: Two current IDs, one from each column (view the list provided), are required.

Identity Proof

  • Employer ID with photo
  • Alien registration with photo
  • School ID with photo
  • "Green Card"
  • US Military card with photo

Residency Proof

(Valid and current with applicants name and Norwalk address)
  • Norwalk tax bill (for residence, not property owned or business owned)
  • Utility bill dated within the last three months
  • Lease
  • Personal Mail dated within the last three months
  • Auto Registration

Non-Norwalk Residents who work or attend school in Norwalk:

  • If you are employed or attend school in Norwalk, but are a resident of another town, you may be issued
    a library card for use only in the Norwalk Public Library System that is renewable.
  • For those who work in town, we will request a pay stub; students and teachers can present a school ID.
