The SoNoBranch Library will kick off its summer reading program with Marvelous Marvin and "The Magic of Science," 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Designed for children entering kindergarten through 5th grade, the show explains the scientific process from the art of experimenting to the creation of an invention. With simple experiments that kids can try at home, children learn about air pressure, carbon dioxide and the invention of the wheel. The Magic of Science draws a link between the work of artists and scientists, encouraging persistence and exploration. Children can register for the summer reading program FIZZ BOOM READ! before and after the program.

Calling all science lovers! Join us for our three-week STEM Writing Workshop. Students have a choice of two, three-week sessions: June 23, 30 and July 7 or August 11, 18 and 25. For information on STEM, visit: http://www.stemedcoalition.org/. Up to 10 students will be accepted into the program. The workshops will be run by a local resident who has a degree in journalism, over 20 years working in the IT industry and seven years experience working with students in the Norwalk Public School system.

Peace by Piece Norwalk Community Quilt Group is creating a quilt for the SoNo Branch of the Norwalk Public Library. This will be a community project and Norwalk residents are invited to join in creating fabric art that will border an owl motif interior panel based on the theme of beloved children’s books and other library resources that allow one to “take flight” in life. Men’s ties are needed to make the feathers of the wings (so please bring ties!). The piece will be unveiled late fall. All ages are welcome. Children eight years old and under must be accompanied by an adult.
