A heartfelt novel about an unusual friendship--one woman's past inspiring another woman to improve her current situation--that transcends time in the deep South at the popular Whistle Stop Cafe during the 1930s. The critically-acclaimed 1991 movie, 137 minutes long and nominated for 2 Academy Awards (Jessica Tandy for Best Actress and Fannie Flag, the novel's author , for Best Adapted Screenplay), will follow the book discussion.
