Skillfully weaving fact and fiction, Mark Perlman creates a novel of war, romance, murder, the jazz culture of interwar Paris, and the challenges of racism that spans a century and gives us an unforgettable protagonist. The factual characters, like Josephine Baker and Ernest Hemingway, and events, including two world wars, interwoven with fictional ones bring Virgil Carpenter’s story to life in vivid details. Issues both racial and cultural will appeal to a multi-generational, multi-racial audience. A light lunch will be provided by the library.
